ROW 80: Late Update

I had a great book tour this past week, and it kept me from checking in on time. (I know, I know, bad bad me.) It was one of those rare occasions where business and pleasure really did mix, because I had a hella good time. I'm still not finished getting in touch with all respondents (if this is you, please be patient, I will get to you, I swear!!!!) because responses were so overwhelming. But I met a lot of fun new people and authors, and this happened:
#1 Teen/YA SF Fantasy: http://www.smashwords.com/books/category/1024/popular/0/any/any
And also, this:
# 3 Romance, Paranormal: http://www.smashwords.com/books/category/1171/popular/0/any/any
And this:
#9 & 10 Fiction (That's the whole store, apparently) http://www.smashwords.com/books/category/57/popular/0/any/any
How fun is that?
While all that was going on, I did manage to get some writing done, mostly because I'm under the gun with a new series making the rounds with entities of interest. (DC workshop people may remember my Chronicles of Nowhere series?!? Yeah, that!!!!) I really should have kept better track of the word count, but with the tour it's actually easier to look at the before and after, then average the difference. So if I averaged 10,000 words over the course of two weeks, then I hit the ball park of four 1500 word days, I think. (Plus I edited). I've started using spread sheets more to keep track of book review blogs and reader responses, so maybe I'll try and do that with word counts.
I also read Laini Taylor's Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It's a really great book, if a little bit strange. I would not call it YA, and be prepared for good madness. Beyond that, I loved it. Five stars, for sure.

  2. I loved Daughter of Smoke and Bone. It was really...linguistically beautiful I thought. And I'm with you, it didn't feel YA to me either.

  3. Congrats on the word count and rankings and surviving the Masquerade! Phew!
I've really been wanting to read Daughter of Smoke and Bone and am happy to hear about its non-YAness. Did you read it on Kindle or in hardcover?

  4. Read it on Kindle- I'm not sure where to put it. It made me want to run off to Prague and dye my hair blue, and while it def. wasn't YA, it wasn't "grown up" either. Hope to review it when things calm down.

  7. I'm glad you enjoyed the blog tour, Elizabeth! And thanks to everyone for their support!

DoS&B is going to be a challenge to review, but I'll give it a shot. I'm just curious what other reviewers have to say, and how they treat it.

  9. Well Amy, thanks for stopping by yourself! I started posting the other ROW80 blogs earlier in the year, mostly b/c it saves time, but it also encourages me to check in w/ others when I update!
